Q.No.1 (20)
Make a precis of the passage below and suggest a suitable title:
Imagine a Pakistan where its economic troubles start to fade away! Here is where Information Technology (IT) exports step in. The sector — the freelancing community, software companies, and the broader technology industry — has been steadily expanding in recent times. Sure, there have been murmurs of a slowdown, but the sector's potential as an economic powerhouse is undeniable. But the issue is the gap between the IT sector's academia and industry. High taxes are also a problem. They are pushing Pakistan's brightest computer science (CS) graduates away from IT firms. Instead, many are choosing the freedom of freelancing, drawn by the promise of higher pay and fewer financial burdens. Another liability is that IT engineers from CS programs are missing the mark when it comes to soft skills. The lack of these skills hinders their growth because they are unable to communicate in an environment where teamwork is key. Their communication skills are found wanting, taking the focus off their technical abilities as well. Soft skills are essential across the board, yet they are often overlooked in academic coursework. Despite a flood of IT graduates, many struggle with employability as they lack modern training and critical thinking skills needed to thrive in today's fast-paced digital economy. Most importantly, reliable internet access and a robust IT infrastructure are non-negotiable for supporting remote operations, particularly in sectors reliant on work-from-home and online learning. If we are to harness its full potential, a concerted effort to bridge these gaps is imperative. Only through collaborative partnerships and a commitment to fostering a reliable digital landscape can the country transform its IT sector into a powerhouse that not only competes on the global stage but also drives socio-economic progress for generations to come.
Q.No.2 (10)
Read the passage below and answer the questions given at the end of the passage in your OWN WORDS:
According to a monitoring report for 2024, jointly prepared by the Ministry of National Health Services and the World Health Organization, the country lagged far behind in achieving the global target of 80 percent. Last year's results, based on health-related Sustainable Development Goals, have been measured from two points: coverage of essential service delivery, and financial protection. Islamabad Capital Territory led with 63.9 percent followed by Punjab with a 55.5 percent score, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 51 percent, Sindh 50.7 percent, and Balochistan 38.4 percent. While healthcare is increasingly recognized as a basic human right, it is also intimately connected to the process of socio-economic development, yet it remains a low priority for our policymakers. Even when resource constraints hamper progress, there are ways to channelize efforts and funds into health systems. Much of the SDGs can be achieved if the available resources are used in a productive, socially responsible manner. Though that is a vain expectation, given the preferences of those who have the power to improve the quality of life for the people in whose name they govern. Hope is not lost, however. Many private citizens have come forward to work for the welfare of others. In Punjab, for instance, some wealthy entrepreneurs have funded construction of additional wings to government hospitals, and also provide free of cost medicines and food to less fortunate people. A more effective and organized approach seems to be public-private partnership embraced by the Sindh government. Under a capacity enhancement plan of action quite a few philanthropists make generous monetary donations, matched by the government, and also oversee management of public sector hospitals, where people have access to free of cost quality health services. Other provinces can also serve their people better by adopting this model. It is about time all concerned realized that investments in universal healthcare not only benefit people on individual level but also contribute to national endeavour towards progress and prosperity. The present report says that more than half of the burden of diseases in Pakistan could be tackled through inter-sectoral policies and interventions.
